10 Former Newcastle Players Who Criticised The Club

4. Jose Enrique

April 1, 2012. Newcastle United were cruising to a 2-0 victory over Liverpool, with their former left-back forced to don the goalkeeping gloves following Jose Reina€™s late dismissal. With the home crowd mercilessly reminding the Spaniard that they were indeed €˜in the top six€™ - contrary to his pre-season predictions - it truly was Jose Enrique who was the April Fool that day.
''The club is allowing all the major players of the team to go. Seriously, do you think it is the fault of the players. Andy, Nobby etc. This club will never again fight to be among the top six again with this policy. They lie all the time. But if they don۪t want to spend in the club and bring quality players - that۪s why everybody go.۪۪ - Jose Enrique, July 2011.
On one hand, not many can blame the former Toon fan favourite for becoming disillusioned with the way the club was being run - after all, he was simply echoing the sentiments of the supporters who used to adore him. Still, Geordies couldn€™t pass up an opportunity for some good-natured ribbing when Enrique€™s Liverpool finished 13 points behind the Tyneside outfit the following season.
