5. Pochettino Tricks Danny Rose
Earlier this season, Spurs left back Danny Rose capped a dramatic turnaround in his career fortunes when he earned his first England call-up. The call-up was largely more due to a number of injuries in the left back position, but it was a sign of improvement in Rose as well. Rose had been thought to be surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane, following the signing of Ben Davies, but he has stood tall and kept his place in the first team. Having heard that England had been keeping tabs on Rose and having been tipped off that he was due to be called up to the national squad, Mauricio Pochettino took the opportunity to play a trick on Rose. Rose explains:
The manager texted me at ten past nine on Wednesday morning and he said can you come to my office? I was thinking what have I done? I went to his office and he sat me down and said I've got something to tell you weave accepted a bid, were selling you. I said no youre not. But then after that he told me he heard a rumour that I might have a chance of being selected.
Sure enough, Rose received the call up soon after. And it's good to know Pochettino has a sense of humour.
