10 Funny Spurs Stories From The Premier League Era
6. Gareth Bale To Birmingham For £3 Million
You remember Gareth Bale, right? He's the guy who outgrew Spurs and joined Spanish giants Real Madrid in 2013 for a world record transfer fee of £85.3 million. Well, the start to his Spurs career was very different to the end of it. Bale wasn't performing well at all and, in his first set of appearances for the club, he actually went 24 league matches for them without being on the winning side. As he struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League, following his move from Nottingham Forest, his career could have taken a very different path to the one it is now on. Bale was linked with a £3 million movie to Birmingham City, with the Birmingham manager at the time - Alex McLeish - having stated that a deal was almost struck between the two sides for the Welshman. It's very funny to imagine that now, since Bale is firing on all cylinders for the biggest football club in the world.
