10 Hardest Men That Ever Played For Liverpool

8. Joey Jones

The modern day has seen some pretty tough characters take to the Anfield astroturf, but staring back through the mists of time will turn up countless hard nuts who've worn the Liverpool colours. Welsh international Joey Jones began his career at local Wrexham but followed his boyhood dreams - he had a Liverbird tattoo on his forearm - to play for Liverpool soon after, and became an integral part of Bob Paisley's team during the seventies, playing as part of the treble-chasing Liverpool squad which won the League championship and reached the finals of the FA Cup and European Cup. He's not remembered as fondly as some of the superstars of the era, but during his tenure with the team Jones was a fan favourite, and his playing style made many of those stars who they are today. A principal benefactor of Jones's rough-and-tumble defending style was one Kenny Dalglish, with rumour at the time having it that the full back would start matches with every intention of bringing any challenger to the forward's progress. Jones was never shy of getting stuck into the action, managing a couple of goals during his career at Anfield before ping-ponging between Wrexham and Chelsea prior to his retirement in 1992.
