10 Hardest Men That Ever Played For Liverpool

9. Steven Gerrard

Like Carragher, the current Liverpool captain often seems like a player from a different era of the game. Starting at Anfield when he was just a 17-year-old, Stevie G has been one of the most consistently aggressive and talented players on the squad, there's rarely an on-pitch situation where the skipper doesn't appear. He's spent much of his career as a central midfielder but has also been used as a second striker, holding midfielder, attacking midfielder, right back and right winger, bringing a same dogged persistence to every role he's played for his local team. Compared to many of his peers Gerrard managed to keep a clean nose for the majority of his career, only ever spilling into the tabloids' back pages during a punch-up with a DJ during a night out in Liverpool. Pretty standard. That's nothing compared to the dedication he has to his club, and his dedication to making sure his club stays on top. His toughness has kept him as top choice both for Liverpool skipper and a brief period as England captain, where younger players look up to both his experience and his good example as a player who doesn't go down easily, who gets stuck in regardless of the people he's coming up against, and a decent spot kicker to boot.
