10 Hardest Men That Ever Played For Man Utd

7. Steve Bruce

Throughout his career, Steve Bruce's occasionally... 'over enthusiastic' playing style was best described as "rampaging", and as a result the centre-back understandably suffered with disciplinary problems. But Bruce later developed into one of our most solid and dependable players during the late eighties and early nineties, and even became known for his strangely-high proportion of goal scoring - he netted 19 in the 1990-91 season - largely due to his powerful heading of the ball and bravery (and even willingness) to take knocks from opposition players. Bruce is best remembered for his indomitable spirit and was famous for playing on even if he was injured - in 1992 he returned to the team at short notice even though he was still awaiting surgery on a hernia. It was these traits that made him the heart of the defence during his time at Old Trafford and an obvious candidate for our Manchester United Hard Men List.
