10 Most Humiliating World Cup Defeats

5. Cameroon 1-0 Argentina

Diether Endlicher/AP/Press Association ImagesDiether Endlicher/AP/Press Association ImagesIn one of the World Cup's most stunning moments, an unheralded team of journeymen from France's lower leagues vanquished Diego Maradona's Argentina at the 1990 World Cup. Argentina were the reigning World champions, and this game was expected to be a polite completion of formalities. Like so many more shock results on this list, it was anything but. "No one thought we could do anything here against Maradona, but we knew what we could do," the goalscorer, François Omam-Biyik, said after his country's flabbergasting 1-0 win.
"We hate it when European reporters ask us if we eat monkeys and have a witch doctor. We are real football players and we proved this tonight."
Omam-Biyik had given the Cameroonians the lead and the tiny African nation somehow managed to hold on to the win and inflict utter humiliation of the Argentinians despite the fact they had been sent down to NINE men. François Omam-Biyik's brother, André Kana-Biyik, was one of two Cameroon players to have been sent off in this game, which makes this result all the more unbelievable.
