Neil 'Razor' Ruddock took few prisoners on a football pitch. Ruddock had many attributes of a top defender but struggled with his weight throughout his career.

Upon joining Crystal Palace on a free transfer, they gave him a strict ultimatum in the form of a special contract clause. Ruddock would be required to watch his weight and a clause stated that if he exceeded the recommended weight of 99.8kg, a salary cut of ten per cent was to be applied.

Ruddock failed miserably and was fined a total of eight times in just six months for piling on the pounds. He made just 20 appearances for the Selhurst Park outfit before moving to Swindon Town. His first appearance for 'The Robins' of Swindon did little to dispel the notion that he had changed his dietary habits. Ruddock failed to appear for his debut as a suitably sized shorts for his generous waistline could not be located!
