10 Man Utd Players Who Did Nothing For Club (But Excelled For Their Country)

6. Juan Sebastian Veron

The classic example of a brilliant player who just couldn€™t settle in a particular league. A costly failure at both Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge, it was quite incredulous how this class act was unable to produce his best work considering the repertoire of work that had gone before him. Having arrived at Old Trafford for £28.1 million in 2001, Juan Sebastian Veron consistently struggled to adapt to the faster pace of the game and the lack of time he had on the ball. It€™s no surprise that his performances improved in the Champions League, where he was allowed to play his normal game, scoring four goals as the club progressed from their group with ease. However, it soon became evident that despite Ferguson€™s vehement and abrasive claims that he was €˜a f***ing great player€™, the former Lazio midfielder was dumped on the hands of Chelsea after just two seasons. It would be erroneous to judge Veron by his time in England. Ferguson was right - he was €˜a f***ing great player€™. The man has represented his country 73 times, and taken part in three World Cups. Having featured at the 1998 World Cup, he captained Argentina at the next one in place of the injured Roberto Ayala, the midfield maestro was heralded as one of the key players for the side. While he was omitted from the 2006 World Cup - then again, Jose Pekerman made some strange calls that year, including the benching of Lionel Messi and Carlos Tevez - he was back in the side under Diego Maradona for the 2010 World Cup.
