Without doubt the most painful night one of the Old Firm has ever endured in Europe, Gordon Strachan took his team to the Slovakian minnows expecting a tricky but winnable tie. It was Strachan's first game in charge of Celtic and after it had ended many wished it would be his last. Juraj Halenar's close range finish put Artmedia one up just before half time. Ominously, Chris Sutton and Neil Lennon collided with each other in the middle of the pitch a few minutes earlier, which saw Sutton leave with an eye injury. The Celtic players continued to run around like headless chickens as Halenar completed a devastating hattrick. Blazej Vascak added a poacher's finish while Martin Mikulic scored a pretty fourth with a crafty turn and strike on the edge of the box. Celtic were an absolute shambles and surrendered in Slovakia. The Hoops actually managed to bring the tie back to 5-4 in the second leg and came mighty close to forcing extra time, but it couldn't make up for their appalling first leg display.
