10 Most Shocking Red Cards In Premier League History
6. Martin Taylor - February 23, 2008/ Ryan Shawcross - February 27, 2010
The Premier League has offered up some horrific injuries over the years: the images of Luc Nilis and David Busst lying prone are forever burned into fans' collective minds for instance. Arsenal must believe they have had more than their fair share of agonising moments thanks to reckless challenges. In 2008, a challenge by Martin Taylor on Eduardo saw Sky television deem the tackle too graphic to show a replay as the Croatian striker felt the full force of the Birmingham defender's studs clatter into his leg. Match of the Day were also wary of showing too much of the incident and although Taylor only received a three-match ban, Arsene Wenger initially insisted that the player should 'never play again'. Unfortunately for the forward, it appeared to be the defining moment in his North London career and he was sold to Shakhtar Donetsk two years later. In what appeared to be a carbon copy of the Eduardo injury, rising star Aaron Ramsey also found himself on the end of a horror tackle by Stoke's Ryan Shawcross in a game at the Britannia. With his leg at an unsavoury angle, the Welsh midfielder's injury was seen to make players on the pitch look visibly sick and he has since stated that it took him over three years to get back to peak performance.
