10 Most Shocking Red Cards In Premier League History

7. Duncan Ferguson - March 20th, 2004

They don't come much scarier than Big Dunc. Just ask Steffan Freund. The Scottish striker was leading the line for Everton in their clash with Leicester and appeared rattled by the German midfielder. After receiving a second yellow card for wrestling Freund to the ground (after earlier elbowing), the red mist well and truly set in for Ferguson. Not exactly known for his calm demeanour, the tall forward gave referee Barry Knight a torrent of abuse before he went in search for Freund again, clearly unhappy with the part he had played in his dismissal. What happened next has gone down as one of the most iconic images in the Premier League - especially with Everton fans who even made t-shirts to savour the moment. The Scot grabbed the German by the throat and man-handled him to the ground before gesturing to the fans on his way back to the dressing room. The game ended in a 1-1 draw and Ferguson was handed a four-match ban.
