10 Newcastle United Rumours That Need To Die Immediately

8. The Ridiculous Wage Cap

The Rumour Newcastle refuse to pay anyone over £30-35k a week after relegation and Michael Owen's extraordinary wages (plus a good number of his team-mates) left Mike Ashley out of pocket. They thus cannot compete with "bigger" budgets. The Truth Newcastle currently pay Fabricio Coloccini at least £60k a week, and Jonas Gutierrez is apparently not so far away (hence the reprehensible decision to try and move him on even as he was ill), and have been willing to pay Loic Remy what he wanted to come back to the North East. Despite Mike Ashley's fondness for zero hour contracts, the club is willing to pay what it takes to buy the right players. What matters more than their contract is their resale factor in relation to it: it's fine to give someone a big contract, if they're going to be sold on for high profit - that's just good business.
