Further to the revelation that Cacapa was on £40k a week to pretend to be a Premier League defender, the Chronicle also uncovered the fact that Australian forward Mark Viduka was on an eye-watering £80k a week to not score the goals that could have kept Newcastle up. Had the big man been motivated enough by his £80k a week to score maybe one or more goals, Newcastle wouldn't have been relegated, and he could have continued sucking money out of the club for longer. Sadly for him he had to make do with the £320k that Newcastle were forced to pay him for the month of July 2009 based on new legislation that protected players who hadn't had their contracts renewed. Quite why he couldn't waive that right having taken £80k a week up to that point remains unclear, but there's a good chance it had something to do with £320k being a really nice amount of money for doing absolutely nothing.
