10 Players Who Didn't Fulfil Their Potential At Arsenal
8. Sebastien Squillaci
When Arsenal signed Sebastien Squillaci, there was good reason to believe he could be a very successful player for the club. Having already achieved over twenty caps for his country before joining the Gunners and after having been an established player at previous clubs Lyon and Sevilla, fans would have been forgiven for expecting better than what Squillaci turned in for the London club. Signing in the same Summer as the far more successful Laurent Koscielny, Squillaci was brought in to bolster Arsenal's ailing defence. It quickly became apparent through his early performances, however, that Sebastien Squillaci was simply not equipped to play in the Premier League. He was responsible for several high profile mistakes in his first season, and committed numerous defensive errors that would prove costly to the Gunners' season. It was suggested that the Frenchman simply did not have the defensive intelligence to play in a league as fast-paced as the Premier League. Though his promise and potential was based entirely on his assertions before joining the Gunners, Sebastien Squillaci represents another player brought in to the Arsenal set-up who just did not live up to any of the expectations Arsenal fans may have held for him.
