10 Players Who Didn't Fulfil Their Potential At Arsenal
9. Andrei Arshavin
After bursting into the Premier League in his first half season, Andrei Arshavin struggled to live up to the early promise that his initial performances, and earlier roles for his country, suggested he could fulfil. At one time Arsenal's record transfer signing, Arshavin certainly never fulfilled his potential with the Gunners. It's regularly suggested that Arshavin struggled to cope with the physicality and pace of the Premier League once defences became familiar with his playing style. Seen as being a rather leisurely player, Arshavin's apparent refusal to play his part in the defensive side of the game and unwillingness to track back up when opposition teams were in possession quickly demonstrated that he was not suited to a league where all eleven players in a team are becoming equally responsible for their team's attacking and defending. Despite a memorable four goal masterclass in Arsenal's 2009 4-4 with Liverpool at Anfield and his scoring of the winning goal when Arsenal beat Barcelona 2-1 in the Champions League in 2011, Andrei Arshavin's time at Arsenal will largely be regarded as a disappointment. Fans of the club will probably allow him a slightly more favourable view for those two performances alone, however.
