At the end of his uneventful Manchester United career, Liam Miller insisted he didn't regret joining Manchester United, though did concede it hadn't worked out. Signed on a free transfer from Celtic in 2004, big things were expected from the midfielder, who had won the Scottish Premier League earlier that year. However, he quickly found that first-team opportunities were limited at Old Trafford, and played just nine league games over the course of his two-season stay at the club. As if to rub salt into the wounds, Miller suffered further insult to injury when, in 2006, despite United missing a series of first team regulars, the Irishman still couldn't get into the starting XI for the Red Devils' game against Orlando Pirates during a tour of South Africa. It soon became apparent that Miller was deemed surplus to requirements at the club and he was allowed to hook up with fellow Irishman and former United star Roy Keane, then manager of Sunderland, in 2006, bringing to an end a bitterly disappointing stay at United.
