10 Players Sir Alex Ferguson Was Completely Wrong About

2. Bebe

Bebe's move to Manchester United in 2010 was a strange one. Strange because Sir Alex Ferguson had never seen him play before, and only met him the day before the transfer. Ferguson signed the striker based purely off the advice of then-assistant manager Carlos Queiroz and must have wished he'd made the effort to properly scout the Portuguese forward because he was a flop at Old Trafford. The striker only made two appearances for the Red Devils and spent much of his time flogged out on loan, having stints with Turkish side Besitkas and Portuguse outfits Rio Ave and Paços de Ferreira. He was eventually handed a reprieve from his United hell and sold to Benfica earlier this summer having scored only two goals for the Manchester club. This is proof that it really does pay to scout your players and Bebe himself admits this one never worked out, and even accused Ferguson of wrecking his career at United. He said: "When I arrived I went into the room and saw Ferguson was looking at me. He told me to cut my hair, it will look better. So I cut it the same day. In the next training session he didn't recognise me.
"I went past him many times and he didn€™t know me. He didn€™t speak much but I didn€™t understand much. He has a difficult accent, so I understood nothing. He called me €œBaby€. After I told him it wasn€™t like that."
