Having courted Mateo Musacchio for much of the summer, Spurs missed out on signing the Argentinian defender from Villarreal thanks largely to his complicated third party ownership. As a result, they signed his fellow countryman Federic Fazio from another Spanish side - Sevilla - to help the club shore up their leaky defence. Fazio is a top player, but many people saw him as a downgrade on Mussachio - both in terms of his quality and the fact that he is three years older than Mussachio - and Spurs may still be interested in upgrading their defence further in the coming months. Third party ownership problems aside, he would be well worth going back in for, as Younes Kaboul is unlikely to remain fit and, in his brief appearances so far this term, Vlad Chiriches continues to run himself in to trouble far too much. Any team that had a central defence to choose from which included Jan Vertonghen, Federico Fazio, Mateo Mussachio and one other player from Kaboul and Chiriches would be spoilt for choice.
