Ashley Cole left Chelsea on a free transfer at the end of last season and was linked to a host of top clubs - including Spurs. The former England international ended up heading to Italy to sign for Roma and he has proven himself still very capable of performing at the top level, as he is flourishing on an individual level in both Serie A and the Champions League. As a result, he is being linked with a move back to England with Manchester United in January and Spurs should regret not snapping him up for free when they had the chance. Ben Davies joined the club in the summer and Danny Rose is competing with him for the left back spot, but neither of them are a patch on Cole - especially not defensively - even though he's 33 years old. He would have been a superb short term option who could have taught the club's young full backs a lot.
