Spurs have been linked with Belgian international defender Toby Alderweireld since his Ajax days and were linked with him after his move to Atletico Madrid didn't turn out as successful as he would have hoped. Alderweireld is now on loan at Spurs' Premier League rivals Southampton and the early signs are that he can cope with the rigours of the Premier League without any issues whatsoever. Spurs have struggled to truly nail down their strongest centre back pairing and it would have been wise to bring in Alderweireld to partner Jan Vertonghen at centre back, given that the duo have successfully partnered each other at club level in the Netherlands and still do at international level with Belgium.
