10 Players We Still Can't Believe Won The Champions League
2. Jesper Blomqvist
For all of the decorated players that Manchester United can boast throughout the years, they were forced to start Jesper Blomqvist on the left-wing for one of the biggest nights in the history of the club. Having arrived in 1998, he served as much competition to Ryan Giggs, as Anders Lindegaard currently serves to David de Gea. In other words, Giggs place was under absolutely no threat, with the Swedish winger helping himself to just one goal throughout his time under Sir Alexs stewardship. However, as the curse of the yellow card so often strikes a team down for these finals, Roy Keane and Paul Scholes famously had to watch on from the stands, leaving the wily Scot with no alternative but to entrust Blomqvist with a starting role at the Nou Camp in 1999. Unsurprisingly, Bayern Munich were untimidated by the bearded Swede and gobbled him up for dinner, before spitting him back out midway through the second half, when he made way for Teddy Sheringham. The rest, as they say, is history, but despite toiling in earnest to no avail, Mancunians will appreciate his finest contribution in a red shirt: making way for someone who knows where the back of the net is.
