10 Players We Still Can't Believe Won The Champions League

3. Oleguer Presas

It€™s only natural that where there are spectacular sides sparkling with flair and creativity, there are always the unfashionable players who do the donkey work. Unabashed and failing to receive recognition for their years of hard work, they go about their business in a quiet and understated fashion, but that makes their contribution no less critical. With Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto€™o and Lionel Messi just three of the destructive dynamos dictating the season ticket prices at the Nou Camp in 2006, it makes sense that their right-back would fail to receive much praise. However, this is only half the story for Oleguer. With such an emphasis on a Catalan influence coursing throughout the club, Frank Rijkaard felt under pressure to pick the homegrown Barcelona native for their 2006 final meeting with Arsenal. Indeed, it was he who lost his marker, directly leading to Sol Campbell€™s opener for the Gunners, before Oleguer was hauled off with twenty minutes remaining. Within ten minutes, Barcelona are winning, and the Catalan€™s replacement has grabbed the winner. Much as he had for most of the season, Oleguer€™s lack of pace had been exposed, and was struggling to keep up with the pace of the game. 167 appearances for one of the most decorated clubs in the history of the game is certainly no mean feat, but for the five seasons spent in the first-team, he was identified as the fissure in the rock.
