10 Players You Totally Forgot Played For Southampton

10. Jacob Mellis

A promising young goal scoring midfielder, Mellis had been signed by Chelsea for £1 million at the age of 16 and his form for the club's youth team and the England Under-19s had him picked out as a star of the future. Now, however, Mellis, who this year signed for desperate-for-anyone-they-can-get Blackpool, is best known for behaviour bad enough that he makes former team mate Ashley Cole look like an all round good guy. Fired by Chelsea in March 2012 for setting off a smoke grenade at the club's training ground and causing a full scale evacuation, within weeks Mellis was also charged with assaulting his girlfriend in a further incident. In between his time as a future England prospect and facing criminal charges, Mellis found time to turn out for Southampton, then in League 1, for seven uneventful starts and five brief substitute appearances. Signed on a five month loan deal when the club were suffering from a ten point penalty from having recently gone into administration in the summer of 2009, Mellis' move was not made permanent.
