10 Players Who Did Nothing At Chelsea (But Excelled For Their Country)

10. Mikael Forssell

He may never have received the honour of representing his nation at a major international tournament, but make no mistake about it, Mikael Forssell will go down as one of Finland€™s greatest ever players. Ever since bagging his first goal for the side against Luxembourg in 2001, the former Chelsea striker refused to cease scoring, bagging 29 goals in 86 appearances for the minnows, as they struggled at the tail end of their qualification groups. For Chelsea, however, he was the archetypal forgotten man during his seven years on their books. farmed out on five separate loan spells, it was clear that there was no place for the Scandinavian in their plans, and this general feeling of unwelcome was repaid with just five goals in 33 appearances for the Blues. It had all began so brightly for the 17 year old at Stamford Bridge, with the teenager bagging a brace on his first start for the club in 1998, and his first league goal arriving three weeks later, but it was to be a false dawn for the Finnish hot-shot. It€™s no surprise that he was unable to replicate his international goalscoring spark at Stamford Bridge considering the distinct lack of opportunities that were afforded to him during his stay in London - indeed, he spent more time away from the club than he did there.
