10 Players Who Did Nothing At Chelsea (But Excelled For Their Country)

9. Yossi Benayoun

Yossi Benayoun arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2010 as a washed-up 30 year old whose muscles were finally giving in having taken a battering from defenders during his previous half-decade in the Premier League decade. Over the course of his three-year contract with the Blues, he would be forced to contend with the likes of Juan Mata, Eden Hazard and Oscar for a starting berth - as well as grit his teeth and work with the same man who he claimed he left Liverpool to escape - so is it really any surprise things didn€™t quite work out for him in west London? The diminutive playmaker mustered just 14 league appearances for the club, with just one strike to show for his efforts, with loan spells across town at both Arsenal and West Ham failing to recapture his spark. For Israel, however, he has been an ever-present for the last 16 years. Having made his debut in a friendly in November 1998, he bagged his first international hat-trick during a Euro 2000 qualifier against San Marino. For the last decade, he has been Israel€™s most prominent player and has provided some crucial goals and assists, and was granted captaincy of his country prior to the qualifiers for Euro 2008. To date, the 34 year old has scored 24 goals in 96 appearances for his country, and he has shown no signs of retiring just yet.
