Injury had restricted Mark Bosnich to only 17 appearances at Aston Villa during the 1998-99 season but he was still offered the opportunity to replace Peter Schmeichel at Manchester United.

It was an offer that the Australian stopper could not refuse but after the switch failed to pay off and he was later criticised by Sir Alex Ferguson for his professionalism at Old Trafford, he surely wishes he had stayed at Villa.

All went well from for Bosnich during his first season back at the club where he began his professional career as he made 35 appearances in all competitions and won both the Premier League and Intercontinental Cup.

However, that would represent his final season at the top level despite being aged just 28. He would be replaced by Fabien Barthez and he would never play for United again.

He would later spend two years at Chelsea but he only made seven appearances at Stamford Bridge before a failed drugs test resulted in his dismissal.

He would end his career back in his homeland.
