10 Players Who Proved Life Isn't Always Better After Newcastle
2. Andy Carroll
Reportedly forced out of Newcastle United so Mike Ashley could enjoy his £35 million transfer fee, while the club claimed he requested a transfer after The Reds' initial bid of £30 million was turned down... You can't help but feel a bit sorry for big Andy. It all started so well for Andy Carroll at Liverpool as he notched two goals in a thumping 3-0 win over Manchester City as he looked to be forming a deadly partnership with Luis Suarez. However, a combination of injuries, a loss of form and the arrival of footballing purist *cough* Brendan Rodgers soon meant he was out the door and on the way to West Ham despite rumours he was on his way back to St James' Park. Rumours that continue to crop up today for some strange reason... The former England international has only managed to make 54 appearances and score 14 goals in his three years 'daaan saaaf', which is a far cry from the form that he was displaying when he left Newcastle. After a breakthrough campaign in The Championship which saw him net 17 times in 39 games, Carroll had 11 goals in 19 appearances on United's return to the big time and had broken into the England squad where he looked nailed on to be our nation's new number nine going forward. It was quite literally the dream scenario which greed from one party at least (depending on which reports you believe) has completely and utterly ruined. He shouldn't have left. End of story.
