In 2011, in a move that baffled some, winger Ahmed Elmohamady chose to stay at Sunderland rather than sign for the Gunners. Several English Premier League clubs including Arsenal and West Brom were interest in signing the Egyptian star, but he made it clear that he wished to stay at Stadium of Light and offered his commitment to the club:
I would like to stay with Sunderland in the summer, if the manager wants to sign me. There has been other interest in me three other clubs that I know about in England and abroad, but I am not interested in going anywhere else. I want to come to Sunderland. I like playing here at Sunderland and I am happy. I have good relationships with my teammates: I know the manager and the fans very well.
He then spent a few years at Sunderland before dropping down into the Championship with Hull. Last season however, he made it all the way to the FA Cup final before watching the club that he rejected, Arsenal, lift the trophy. Some cruelly commenters might suggest he got exactly what he deserved.
I have been described as a sportsman with the brain of an athlete and the body of a scientist. Since it was established that playing wouldn't work out for me I have taken to writing.
