Tall, strong and boasting pretty good feet for a big man, Andy Carroll has never fully reached his potential after bursting out at Newcastle United. After one great season with Newcastle in the Championship and half a season in the Premier League, Carroll was chosen to be the replacement for Fernando Torres at Liverpool, in a pair of moves where nobody seemed to feel the need to consult the guide on how much money is appropriate to spend on strikers. He sealed a move to Anfield for an extraordinary fee of almost £35million and then proceeded to do nothing to justify the price tag. Liverpool didn't change their playing style from the days when Torres' pace and technique were sensational, and Carroll couldn't Andy Carroll fill his boots, because he had thrived on supply from deep, high crosses and a phased attacking system that positioned him as the target man. When it was time to move on (when the abuse from the Liverpool fans became unbearable), Arsenal showed an interest in the striker, but he eventually opted for West Ham and he has been there since. Despite developing a semi decent rapport with the Hammers fans, Carroll has never regained his England International career, nor has he competed for any major honours - both of which would likely of happened had he chosen Arsenal instead.
I have been described as a sportsman with the brain of an athlete and the body of a scientist. Since it was established that playing wouldn't work out for me I have taken to writing.
