10 Problems Steve McClaren Doesn't Want To Admit About Newcastle

3. Pre-Season Negligence Has Cost Them

Steve McClaren's pre-season coincided with Newcastle broadcasting a lot more 'behind-the-scenes' footage on NUFCTV and social media outlets such as Twitter and Periscope. The response to the club's change of philosophy and focus was extremely positive and McClaren's 4-2-3-1 system and possession based style sparked a large amount of fan optimism. Unfortunately, now that pretty much every single bit of the former Derby boss' tactics having failed by October it has now became apparent that his naivety create a plan B has proved costly. McClaren is now stuck with what looks like a messy last-minute job of attempting to play a 4-4-1-1 formation with Ayoze Perez (a player who he discarded pre-season and played centre midfield) as his latest project.
