10 Reasons Why It's All Going Wrong For Louis Van Gaal At Man Utd

2. The Failure To Clear Out The Deadwood...

As previously mentioned, there are too many Manchester United players who are not Manchester United quality. The likes of Tom Cleverley, Anderson, Ashley Young and Nani shouldn't be anywhere near the first team while you could also make an argument against Chris Smalling being in the starting XI. At least Nani has been shipped off on loan to Sporting Lisbon following seven seasons of underachievement but there hasn't been anything like the proverbial fire sale some fans might have hoped for. There is too much deadwood at Old Trafford that still needs to be chopped as we enter the final week of the summer transfer window and there is a growing concern United are going to keep a series of flops on their books. Anderson should have been sold a very long time ago, and that his loan move to Fiorentina last term wasn't turned into a permanent stay is as worrying as it is perplexing. Cleverley meanwhile hasn't turned into "the next Paul Scholes" since graduating from the youth academy to rave reviews five years ago and Young and Valencia are two of the worst wingers the Reds have ever had. Surely now is the time to take stock, realise things aren't working, and make serious changes to the side?
