One of the most publicised cases in 2014 was undoubtedly Ray Rice's domestic abuse case. Rice, now former Running Back for the Baltimore Ravens, was caught striking his then fiancée (now wife) on security footage, in an elevator in an Atlantic City casino on February 15th. She was knocked unconscious. Rice's actions were inexcusable and eventually led to his release from the Ravens.

On top of Rice's actions, there was an entire controversy brewing behind the scenes. The NFL were sent footage of the incident by a law enforcement official in April, but it took until September for action to be taken against him. The lax approach of the NFL to punish Rice's actions has even led President Obama to step in and urge Commissioner Goodell to stop letting things slide.
