3. Sergei Rebrov

To this day, the name 'Sergei Rebrov' brings a ripple of malcontent around White Hart Lane. Regarded as one of the club's biggest waste of money, he had cost £11 million when prized from Ukrainian side Dynamo Kiev. Failing to replicate any of the form that earned him cult status alongside a certain Andriy Shevchenko in Kiev, Rebrov struggled in North London, and mustered a paltry nine goals in his first season, before finding himself frozen out under Glenn Hoddle. When the cord after four miserly years, as he was dumped on West Ham, the Spurs board may have naively believed they wouldn't be caused any more hassle from the former Kiev misfit. Just four years later, however, the club were forced to defend their supporters from racial jibes fired by Rebrov. Warning new signing Roman Pavluychenko that by escaping becoming 'a robbery victim, he should avoid walking around the area close to White Hart Lane, due to 'a lot dark skinned people living there'. Even when the £11 million flop was no longer their problem, he was still a nuisance.
