10 Things Arsenal Fans Need To Know About Mathieu Debuchy
9. Loyalty
At the age of 8, little Mathieu Debuchy was brought into the youth ranks at Lille, where he continued to move through the youth squads and signed a professional contract aged 18 in 2003. That's ten years of service at a time when talented players - especially in France - are generally noticed and poached by English clubs, like Arsenal. It wasn't until 2012 that he moved to Newcastle and though he only played 2 seasons on Tyneside, his displays earned him the label of a very committed player, who will now bring his all-action attacking style to the Gunners. The important thing to note is that he is a member of an ever shortening list of players who have spent more than 10 years at a club, that's loyalty that it seems you cannot buy in this day and age. And while he moved on from newcastle quickly, he leaves the club in a strong financial position, and having made it very clear that his aspirations were always to move to a Champions League club.
I have been described as a sportsman with the brain of an athlete and the body of a scientist. Since it was established that playing wouldn't work out for me I have taken to writing.
