10 Things Arsenal Fans Need To Know About Mathieu Debuchy

8. He's Tall For A Short Guy

At 5'10, Mathieu Debuchy isn't the tallest defender in the world, and it would be pretty amusing to see him stood beside Mertesacker on the field, which won't be long in the happening. But his vertical issues don't seem to have stopped him bossing the opposition when it comes to aerial duels though. Last season he outshone many of the leagues centre backs with a commanding 70% success rate with his aerial battles, a key attribute that could really strengthen Arsenal's achilles heel - the dreaded set piece. Whenever opposition sides attacked Newcastle's right flank with long-balls, the majority of cases would see Debuchy leap gracefully and strongly through the air and power a header forward or out of play, in a manner that made defensive cohort Mike Williamson's inability to either direct or power any headers at all even more comical.
