3. ...But He Hasn't Got Paul Scholes's Seal Of Approval
Mike Egerton/EMPICS SportShaw has been earning rave reviews over the past 12 months, to the point that he was named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year for 2013-14. But one man he has not impressed is Paul Scholes. The legendary Manchester United midfielder recently
hit out over the price tag his former club paid for the defender, and claimed the Red Devils should have signed a striker instead. Scholes, who made 718 total appearances for United in a glittering 20-year-career, has recently been quoted as saying the £30+ million forked out on Shaw was "silly".
For a left-back to be worth £34 million shows how silly the game has gone. For that money I want a centre-forward whos going to score 30 goals a season.
Shaw clearly has much to prove if he is to live up to what many see as an inflated valuation, and perhaps his biggest task in a Manchester United shirt over the coming years is justifying his price tag.
