10 Things Premier League Needs To Learn From American Sports

7. The Draft

4 The Draft The draft is another big idea over from the NFL that could have a big effect on the Premier League. The draft simply acts in taking the best players from the college system and handing them out fairly amongst all the teams in the league. So no extra money or playing favourites helps in the draft everyone has a fair shot at getting the best up and coming players. An even better part of the draft idea is that the worst team from the last season gets the first draft pick of the new season so can pick the best player to help their failing team. Take the Indianapolis Colts who were the worst team in the whole NFL in 2011 but in the draft their first pick got them a promising quarterback in Andrew Luck and the next season they got into the playoffs, face it you would never see a team in the Premier League go from 17th to Champions League places in one season. I know acting for balance and a level playing field from the Premier League is like asking Roman Abramovich to stop sacking managers every 6 months or like Suarez not causing a media storm every month but still it would be nice to see lower teams rewarded and not punished. So instead of youngsters being developed by smaller clubs only to have them stolen by big top 4 teams having them all fairly priced and put into a draft would make transfer deals much fairer giving every club in the top flight a chance to own the best young talent. This is probably the longest shot idea of all those on the list however I admire the way the draft works and how the NFL is trying to reduce having weak €˜easy victory€™ teams in the league and trying to have a level playing field really is what sport should be about not the fact the same 3 teams win everything because they have the most money.
