10 Training Ground Feuds You Probably Didn't Know About

5. William Gallas And Kolo Toure

This list won't make for pleasant reading for Arsene Wenger, if he notices the prevalent theme. It's no surprise that Arsenal have endured such a trophy drought in recent years, with the constant examples of disharmony plaguing their squad. In the summer of 2009, Wenger noted that the relationship between their defensive units had detiorated to such an extent that one needed to be sold - some might say he sold the wrong one. According to the Ivorian centre-half Kolo Toure, part of the Invincibles squad of 2004, the on-going feud between himself and centre-back partner William Gallas became so poisonous that they wouldn't even discuss match instructions or tactics.
''When you play with somebody and you don't even talk to each on the pitch, it's really difficult. We didn't talk to each other all. One of us had to go and it was me. I didn't want to put the team in a difficult position, so I was the one who said I wanted to go.'' - Kolo Toure, April 2010.
With the French centre-back having six years experience on his partner, Toure indicated that 'he took advantage of that in some ways'. An example being when Gallas tore into his colleague following a score-less draw at Villa Park in December 2008, upsetting Toure furthermore when his manager failed to defend him.
