10 Utterly Embarrassing Newcastle United Stories

10. Kieron And Lee Forever

As Roy Keane has once more been showing thanks to the release of his latest book, team-mates aren't always the best of friends, and tensions between competitive sportsmen can boil over into genuine fisticuffs on the training ground, as Peter Schmeichel's jaw can probably attest to. Sadly for everyone associated with Newcastle United - though hardly surprisingly given the goldfish bowl nature of the club - when it happened at Newcastle under Graeme Souness, it happened in full view of 50,000 fans, TV cameras and the world's media. We don't do things by half after all. Losing to Aston Villa in a game that would eventually end 3-0, Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer had a disagreement over Dyer's decision not to pass to his fiery team-mate, who decided the best course of action was to try and pop his head off like a grape. Gareth Barry stepped in and broke the pair up after their hand-bags but the damage was done as both were sent off and made to give a public apology like the naughty schoolboys they were after the game.
