In February 2011, Fernando Torres, who a month previously had joined Chelsea from Liverpool in a British transfer record £50 million deal, made his debut against his former side. It would end in a disappointing 1-0 defeat for Torres, who was hauled off after just over an hour, but fortunately for him, his ineffectual performance against the Reds didn't steal the headlines. Instead, those went to Maxi Rodriguez, who was guilty of missing from two yards out after having the ball put on a plate for him by Steven Gerrard. Gerrard sent in an inviting cross which bobbled across the face of goal toward Maxi, who evaded his marker on the far post but crucially leant back at the final moment and struck the crossbar. His blushes were spared however by Raul Meireles, who struck 20 minutes from time to give his side an important win over the Blues.
