There's probably good reason the little Welshman hated his big Geordie strike-partner by the end of his time at Newcastle: under Sir Bobby Robson, the motor-mouth had been signed as a foil for Shearer - replacing the running and energy he no longer had - but he'd never really got the praise he deserved for extending Shearer's career. That was particularly clear when Graeme Souness came in, kissed Shearer's backside in public and basically suggested Bellamy was not a very nice person. Bellamy was being played out of position, and did what his little angry brain told him was the best solution - refusing to play and feigning injury. Instead of putting an arm around him and massaging his ego as Sir Bobby had, Shearer sold the kid down the river, uncovering his fake injury to the press. Bellamy was clearly unimpressed and when he was eventually shipped off to Celtic on loan he reacted badly to Shearer's suggestion in the wake of the 2005 FA Cup semi-final that everyone but him was to blame, so he texted him:
"He wasnt the player he had been and now he was trying to pass the buck. I had seen how poorly he performed personally. So I got my phone out and texted him. F****** typical of you, I texted. Looking at everyone else yet again. You need to look at yourself instead. Your legs are f****** shot. Concentrate on yourself and let the team take care of itself. I got one back straight away. If I ever see you in Newcastle again, Ill knock you out. Im back in Newcastle next week, I texted back. Pop round and say hello. His Big, hard Al act wasnt for me."
