He was plagued by injury in a first season that saw him start just one game, and he was sent out on loan to Corinthians for two years by Martin O'Neill who comically apparently told the player that "I like footballers who are not like you... Though he expressed his desire to be a success in Scotland after his second loan spell at Corinthians, he no longer met work permit requirements, and Celtic were forced to pay off his contract and let him go.
