11 Players Who Stole A Living From Celtic

8. Du Wei

Signed From: Shanghai Shenhua Fee: Loan Though he never actually signed for the club permanently, Chinese international Du Wei cost the club a lot - especially if you believe the role his presence played in Adam Virgo's failure in Scotland. On the face of it Du Wei was a good prospect: he was the former Asian Footballer Of The Year, had played at the 2002 World Cup, captained China to victory at the 2010 East Asian Champsionship and came with a dining endorsement from Diego Maradona:
"Du Wei has the perfect sense of how defending should be played. His speed is unparalleled."
And if you can't trust Diego, who can you trust? Sadly, Du Wei's signing proved unfortunately comical: with accusations of publicity for Asian TV markets coming from more than just Virgo, he made his debut against Clyde in the Scottish Cup and impressed so much he was unceremoniously hauled off at half-time. And that was that, he failed to ever make a full appearance for Celtic and was shipped back to China.
