13 Football Moments That Defined 2013

1. The Appointment Of David Moyes

With Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement came the obvious dilemma as to who would replace the inimitable Scottish legend at Manchester United. United hadn't needed to appoint a new manager in over a quarter-of-a-century prior to Ferguson's retirement and so the hunt for a new boss at Old Trafford was a rare one and one of which some fans had never experienced in their lifetimes. Many names were linked with arguably the biggest job in football, such as Jose Mourinho, then of Real Madrid, and Borussia Dortmund's Jurgen Klopp. In the end, the job went to David Moyes, who had been hand-picked by Ferguson himself and left Everton to officially take charge of the champions on July 1. His tenure at the club remains in its infancy but many questions have been raised over the wisdom of the appointment, seeing as though Moyes has yet to win a major piece of silverware in his entire career. And those doubts were justified as the Scot has seen his side lose six times already this season, most recently against Spurs on New Year's Day, leaving a top four finish looking far from certain. Will the New Year see Moyes put his troubles behind him and win over the United fans and, most importantly, win a trophy? Will underdogs roar in the cup, and how will England fare in Brazil? We can't wait to find out. Here's to 2014. What were your top football moments from 2013? Did we miss any out? Let us know in the comment section, below.
