2. Lee Clark
If the first rule of Sunderland AFC is to put maximum effort into every single game, then a very close second is: "Don't do what Lee Clark did." On Wearside, it's tantamount to murder to show a shred of affection towards Newcastle United, let alone support them. Clark had grown up on Tyneside, and after playing an instrumental role in Sunderland's record-breaking promotion campaign, he was snapped wearing a 'Sad Mackem B*******' t-shirt in London in the build up to Newcastle's FA Cup Final in 1999. He was immediately sold by Sunderland, and despite regretting the incident, he told The Observer: "When we won promotion it dawned on me what that really meant. I would have to go to Newcastle the following season as a Sunderland player. I couldn't do that. I couldn't go there and give 100 per cent for Sunderland against the club I love and played for."
