15 Biggest Sunderland Villains

1. Michael Chopra

I honestly don't know whether it's even possible to find a man more collectively despised around the Stadium of Light than Michael Chopra. He wasn't a good footballer, he wasn't a prolific goalscorer, he wasn't a likeable character. He hated Sunderland. His sub-standard performances were endured for a certain length of time, before he did what Lee Clark couldn't do, and lined up against his boyhood Newcastle. It was a tight game, and Chopra was offered a chance on a plate, but he couldn't do it. He couldn't pull the trigger, and sliced the ball across the box rather than taking a shot. There was sheer fury aimed at Chopra - who's only Newcastle goal had come against Sunderland - and he was quickly shipped out to Cardiff on loan, but just to make things even worse, the striker admitted that he had only signed for Sunderland to pay off his gambling debts. Chopra's career is currently on the decline after goalless spells at Blackpool and Indian Super League outfit Kerala Blasters, while he also yet to find the net for Scottish Championship side Alloa Athletic, much to the amusement of those on Wearside, but the damage has already been done. He is the biggest villain in Sunderland's history, and that's probably the highest honour he'll achieve in football.
