Danny Simpson was an alright player. He did a decent enough job on loan from Manchester United, and there were no hard feelings when he headed back to Old Trafford. He later signed for Newcastle, which still wasn't really a big deal, and then decided to wind up the Sunderland fans whenever he could find a newspaper willing to listen to his drivel. His most infamous swipe at the club was a photo showing the full-back holding up a sign asking: "Who is Steven Fletcher?" Even the Newcastle fans were embarrassed by his pointless boasting, as Steven Fletcher was actually named Premier League Player of the Month in the same week. Simpson will always be remembered on Wearside as 'that one from United on loan who came with Jonny Evans'.
