Alan Stubbs signed for Sunderland from his beloved Everton during the summer transfer window in 2005, and made very little impact on the team's steady decline. Just months after signing, he was seen celebrating a last-minute Tim Cahill winner for Everton at the Stadium of Light, while sitting on the Sunderland's substitute bench. As the Black Cats' slump continued, Stubbs was also seen in the stands enjoying a game at Goodison Park, and despite claiming he was there to take his daughter, it became apparent that his heart was still in Merseyside. Unacceptable, in the eyes of Sunderland fans who saw their team relegated with a record low 15 points.
