20 Key Things We Learned From Newcastle's Fans Forum Minutes

20. Newcastle Don't Want To Dwell On Last Season's Debacle - But Admit A "Number Of Factors" Contributed

It seems the mood from the meeting was very much about "looking to the future" rather than dwelling on the debacle that was the 2014-15 campaign - despite certain supporters at the meeting trying to gain answers about John Carver's reign. Newcastle want to draw line in the sand and move on, but unfortunately for most Toon supporters that is not good enough. Reassurances need to be made that 2014-15 will never be repeated again. Brian Parkin, the Gallowgate Stand Representative asked: "The club has admitted to making mistakes. Can you clarify what these mistakes were and what measures have been put in place to ensure that they don't happen again." The response was:
"The club stated it did not wish to dwell on the past and stated its objectives are clear. With Steve and his staff now in place, the focus is now very much looking to the future."
One thing the Newcastle board were willing to admit about last season was that it was a failure - and that a "number of factors" contributed to the club's slide, although they were unwilling to expand into detail as to exactly what that meant. Taylor Payne, Members Representative, asked: "From fans, there's a lot of residual frustration about last season. Why did the failures occur - was it the model, personnel or finance?" The response was:
"The club stated that a combination of factors occurred but repeated it did not want to dwell on the past. "To club did however underline that its final position and being in a situation whereby it needed to secure its Premier League status on the final game of last season was wholly unacceptable." "(When asked what has been done to prevent this happening again) The club stated its objectives have been revised and are clear. In addition, the appointment of a new head coach and new staff who have their own philosophy gives the club a platform from which it can move forward."
